A NaniBird is a 3D paper bird. The concept was created by artist Shin Tanaka, currently living in Japan. You can view more beautiful papercraft on his website. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, you’re in luck! Tanaka’s interactive papercraft is on show at the Scion Gallery.

Canadian artist and illustrator Diana Evans created her own NaniBird for submission to the Arty Girlz Challenge. She has graciously made “Nani Wants a Cupcake” available for your personal use via free download on her blog.

Diana’s artwork is absolutely charming and whimsical. I initially discovered her work when I found a Sock Monkey illustration in her Etsy store. Of course, the next best thing to a Sock Monkey is a cupcake. Diana’s portfolio is like a virtual cupcakery. Cupcake heaven!

Actually, the NaniBird template and site was created by me. Shin is an amazing papercraft creator in his own right, but he hasn’t actually created any NaniBirds for the site.
FYI, you can find out more about the NaniBird site by clicking on the “Info” link on the left hand menu.
