Free Cupcakes at Divine Desserts Etc in O.C.

March 25, 2009

Logo and cupcake illustrations from the Divine Desserts website.

According to the Orange County Register’s Fast Food Maven, a new Cupcakery has opened in Laguna Niguel (South Orange County.) Divine Desserts Etc made its debut yesterday, March 24th. Although cupcakes take top billing at Divine Desserts their menu also includes cookies and muffin tops. You can also purchase a frosting shot in case you want an immediate sugar high.

Divine offers the usual cupcake menu with a few unique exceptions like Banana, Blueberry and Key Lime. If you’re a fan of Spice, Pumpkin and Gingerbread, you’ll be happy to know these are offered on the regular menu too. You won’t have to wait until the Fall season to indulge in these traditionally holiday flavors.

If you missed Divine’s “Grand Opening”, no worries. The best is yet to come. Free cupcakes are yours during a “Happy Hour” scheduled for Thursday, March 26th from 5-7 PM.

The cupcakes are advertised at $3.00 each. A frosting shot will cost you $1.00. The prices are in line with other gourmet/upscale bakeries in the area. No doubt, some naysayers will bemoan the motivation of opening a new cupcake business in this economy and in the shadows of Sprinkles.

Apparently, cupcakes are here to stay despite a sour economy. Lipstick and sweets seem to remain affordable luxuries in times of economic troubles. Moreover, when you want a cupcake, you want it now. Who wants to drive from south county to Newport Beach (especially with the expense of the Toll Road) for a cupcake, even if it is to venture out to a forerunner in the industry. I say the more cupcakes the merrier!

Every new cupcake shop is worth a try. I agree though, it is sorta far, at least from me.
