Valentine’s Day brings cupcakes to Starbucks. This year they’ve added Red Velvet to their cupcake menu. Apparently, cupcakes are limited to the month of February because they’re not a huge seller at Starbucks on a regular basis. In September 2008, cupcakes were added to the Starbucks regular pastry menu in select markets. However, they fell below market expectations and were pulled from the display. Cupcakes at Starbucks=FAIL!

Priced at $1.85, with a modest $.10 price increase from last year, they are still priced well below the usual market price of $2.50-$3.75 for gourmet cupcakes at the most popular local cupcakeries. Starbucks cupcakes are (in my opinion) better than grocery store cupcakes and not bad for the price. The red velvet and vanilla cupcakes are my preferred choices.

By the way, my photos were shot slyly through the display case. Starbucks forbids in store photography, even with permission. I guess they don’t need the free advertising, eh?

Wooooo free Starbucks! Oh wait, they all closed down in Adelaide, South Australia last year, due to the financial trouble they ran into 😦 Makes me a sad panda.
