Obama Inaugural Sweet Treats

January 14, 2009
Obama Inaugural Goodies
From breath mints to chocolates to brownies for a cause
to ethical ice cream and cookies: gilded and whimsical,
foodies have January 20th covered with sweetness!

Fran’s Chocolates
Smoked Salt Caramels
Seattle, WA

OMFG! Are these caramels delicious. The caramel is like butt-tah.
Crystalized smoked salt gives a kick to the creamy and smooth chocolate. These are to die for.
And I just might if they become a habit.
I received a small box of these in a gift box of cupcake supplies from Sur le Table.
Once you taste them you’ll become a regular. They are heavenly.
They’re also the favorite of Barack and Michelle Obama.
Which is why, no doubt, this Seattle-based chocolatier has become quite popular.
Of course, Fran’s was named by the best chocolate maker in the U.S.

Obama Brownies
by Mary Louise Butter Brownies,
Austin, Texas

“Graced with cranberries, white chocolate and blueberries, our decadent brownie symbolizes our true colors and our collaborative efforts as a nation.
Created and baked fresh with pride in a kitchen in Austin, Texas.

The Mary Louise Butter Brownies website created the Obama Brownie as a “delicious representation of our country’s patriotism and unity” as our country gears up for a blow out celebration of the upcoming historical inauguration of our new President. Joining their line of charity brownies, the Obama brand is designed to draw attention to the hunger and poverty in our country. Proceeds from the sales of the Obama Brownie will benefit Feeding America a domestic hunger relief organization.

The Obama Brownies are also sold in gift sets of 3, 6 or 12 brownies. You can order them and the other delicious flavors online. The brownies have a shelf life of 8 to 10 weeks and can be refrigerated. Freezing the brownies will keep them fresh for months.

” ‘YES PECAN!‘ An Inspirational Blend!
Amber Waves of Buttery Ice Cream With Roasted Non-Partisan Pecans.”

On a more political note, to celebrate the Obama inauguration, Ben & Jerry’s has renamed their butter pecan ice cream “Yes PeCAN!

Proceeds from sales of Yes PeCAN! will benefit Common Cause, a non partisian advocacy group that encourages citizen participation in the democratic process and holds elected leaders ethically accountable to the voters. Ben & Jerry’s will also match every donation made to Common Cause and donate $1 for everyone who joins.

From the website:
This is an all butter, soft, vanilla cookie. Each image is hand cut, applied, and then retouched. An edible gold sparkling frame is piped and hand painted around each image to make it stand out and shine- Just like Obama! All cookies come packaged in tall clear bags, company label, and a coordinating double-faced satin red ribbon.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the humor.
